A unique area of a natural masterpiece which changes and reveals something new every season.
Cape Greco is located between two popular resorts - Ayia Napa and Protaras. It became a National Park in 1993, covering an area of 385 hectares. This area used to be a dense forest which has been rapidly cut down and burned to power steam flour mills in Paralimni area, which were an income source for the locals at the time (1910 - 1920). Sadly the rapid deforestation affected the area, so it never recovered. There are varieties of pine still found in the area, as well as variety of flowers, including orchids.
It is also on the Natura 2000 network of European protected sites.
Here you will also come across a variety of animals - foxes, hedgehogs, hares, over 80 species of birds, lizards and a large variety of butterflies. The national Park is rich in fauna and flora of approximately 400 different plant species, 14 endemic, and another 14 extremely rare can be found here.
Hunting is strictly prohibited in the area!
Cape Greco has many wonderful places to see and enjoy, like sea cliffs, beaches, monuments and the wonderful scenery all around. It allows you to go for different activities, like hiking, walking, cliff jumping (At your own risk!), exploring sea caves (At your own risk!), fishing, diving, cycling, watch sunrise and sunset, beach, bird watching and simply enjoying the tranquility! There are multiple benches spread along the nature trails, allowing you to take a break and enjoy the marvelous views. One of these nature trails is also a part of the European Long Distance Trail E4, running from Cyprus to Gibraltar. The sea temperatures are ranging from 16C to 28C and visibility reaches up to 40 metres. For this reason, apart from the wonderful scenery and the marine life, this area is very popular for divers.
